AmeriKKKa Lynched My Brother

In Honor of Ahmaud Arbery

It was a Sunday afternoon

He went out for a run

Maybe to clear his head

Or feel the sun

Or get in his daily workout

Either way

He went out for a run

Through the moss-draped oaks

And humid air

Pass the house of two white men

Who could’ve sworn my brother was guilty

All because the color of his skin

In their mind, he fit the description

BLACK !!!!!!!MAN!!!!!!!

He must be a CrIMiNaL

So with their guns

They followed my brother in a truck

Where they would soon shoot HIM

In seconds he was dead

His heart beating no more

The crazy part is there is a video

Momma, Daddy, and Me

Saw the video of my brother

Murdered in cold blood

In our streets

There were three gunshots

POW the first one, trying to SURVIVE

POW again, my brother holding on

POW a third time, my brother swinging

NOT going down without a FIGHT

But since the day he was born

My brother has been fighting for his LIFE

My brother is the victim

Can you not see the need for self-defense

Or are you only seeing a BLACK MAN

A thing not worth two cents in your EYES

There is outcry

Pushing for those men to be charged

Held accountable for the lynching they did

I’ll never know my mother’s pain

As no parent should ever have to bury their son

But I’m still a sister

I still lost someone

Now I won’t see him marry

Or get his dream job

Or tell him the names I want for my nieces and nephews

My brother

Robbed of a life

His LIFE

All because this justice system says he is ⅗ a person

All because this justice system

And values this country was built on

A white man can lynch a black man in broad daylight

Just because they want to

My brother

A modern day Emmett Till

Know this you racist pigs

I won’t stop till there is justice

Trust Me

Your great-grandkids will know my brother’s name
