Part 1

“Then you will know the truth, and the truth shall set you free.”
John 8:32

It went slowly.
Rough and raw,
Up my arms,
To my neck,
Down my chest,
Seeping through skin
To deepest pit.
My mind and body,
Red-hot,
Ablaze.

My soul wept,
Writhed,
Nashed,
Cried,
And finally,
My levees broke.

The water came swiftly.
Filling every corner,
It took me under.
Pushing me below.
Further and further
From the light
To my darkest space.

I looked up
To see you with your face inviting me,
With your palm reaching for me,
With your tongue singing lies to me.
I felt the scorch beneath my breast.
Most agonizing, it radiated fresh.
So deeper I went.
So deep I will stay.
So deep that when you seek
You will not find me.
