Black and Brown Girlhood & Self Love

Future Is Now (FIN) is a mentoring programming bringing Black and Latina girls (ages 9-12)  from the Durham area to Duke for mentoring to empower them through self-esteem building activities and equip them with life skills.

Learning Positive Affirmations: in the most recent FIN program the girls learned the definition of positive affirmations and created affirmations of their own.

I feel self-love when I watch Youtube videos with my dog.

I feel the most powerful when I’m happy.

I feel the most beautiful when my hair is naturally curly and in a ponytail.

I feel the most powerful when I perform.

I feel the most beautiful when it’s my birthday.

I feel the most powerful when I do gymnastics.

I show self-love by saying to myself that I’m pretty and smart.

I show self-love by saying to myself I’m beautiful every morning when I look in the mirror.

I feel the most powerful when I’m playing piano.

I feel the most powerful when I’m happy.

I feel the most powerful when I do something I like.

I feel the most powerful when I’m with people I love because I can do anything with them. #besties.

I feel the most powerful when I stand up for people I love.
