Justice, Where Have You Gone?

Moments come and go,

Where the earth yawns and widens,

Swallowing body and soul.

Familiar shadows flood in,

And that light in your eyes

Flickers like a waning candle

Until the storm winds snuff it out.

My hope hungered,

My fingers grasped for you

We whispered that it would be okay,

Suffocating the vicious ache in our chests.

The forecast said the sun would shine.

I knew it was a lie.

There’s no one to save us this time.

For them it’s all a game,

One they never lose.

You see, they play with loaded dice

And the House is in their favor.

They hunt the ones that change the rules,

Chase them from the earth,

 But let’s make our own.

The law of people who refuse to be forgotten.

Maybe someday when we win,

If we win,

Do we win?

I’ll find you dancing in the sunlight,

Your eyes brimming with gold.

The wind will howl,

But nothing will shake you.
