Nothing’s Spookier than a Halloween Alone

October is here, and you know what that means: SPOOKY SEASON! Spooky season is usually when students get to take a break from midterm chaos and take a chance to relax with friends. This year will be a little different than expected due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but it can still be fun! I’ve thought of a few things to make an in-house Halloween enjoyable.

  • Before you do anything else, make sure to put on a costume! Halloween fashion show anyone? Try to have a fashion show with your family and make as many costumes as possible with your own clothes. Put on spooky makeup, scary music, and anything else to rock the runway!

  • Make a spooky playlist with all your favorite songs, decorate the house, dim the lights and jam out! There’s nothing better than a good dance party!

  • If you want something to eat, then have a bake-off. This can double as a fall activity, and you can decorate Halloween treats or make pumpkin and apple baked goods. On the topic of sweet treats, setting up “trick-or-treat” stations around the house can simulate the actual trick-or-treat feeling. Your family can rotate at the different stations and everyone can have a turn. If that feels like too much, get a bowl of candy and eat. You deserve it!

  • We can’t forget a classic: scary movie night. If you’re like me and not a huge fan of scary movies, here’s a short list of some of my favorites:

    • Hocus Pocus--a classic, all my homies love Hocus Pocus! (Disney+, Amazon Prime)

    • The Little Vampire--throwback for the girls! A cute movie about friendship and looking past the surface.

    • Coraline--this movie gives slight chills, but is a lovely animated film (Hulu)

    • Us--if you know, you know! Us is that girl (and available on HBO)

    • Happy Death Day (Amazon Prime)

    • Aliens in the Attic (Amazon Prime, HBOmax)

    • And last, but not least, The Spiderwick Chronicles (Netflix)

I hope I’ve given you some ideas for a COVID-approved Halloween night. Don’t allow physically being in the house make you bored in the house and in the house bored on Halloween night. Have fun in any way you desire, whether that’s driving around to see Halloween decorations or simply eating ice cream and enjoying the night to yourself.
