A Bed Not Made for Two

It’s been years since we’ve spoken

Since the strobe lights hit our faces

Reds and blues and purples

Rotating around us, through us

It’s been years

It’s been years since we traveled

Through cities and beaches and the unknowns

Weaving in between buildings

And stealing kisses through the alleyways

It’s been years

It’s been years since we lived together

Since we shared a single full bed

Never made for two

But always made for us

It’s been years

It’s been years since the time you told me you loved me

Because you had to love her too

Not because you wanted

But because it was right to do

It’s been days since you returned

Speaking in apologies

Like others speak of the weather

Casually and without thought

It’s been days

It’s been days since the silence

Since the darkness came back

It had been years since I felt that

Minutes have passed now

Minutes since I apologized

Minutes since you’ve left

It’s been minutes since we’ve seen each other

Since we shared a single space

Memories come and fade, but one stays

That bed was never made for two

And never made for us
